About Katie Barnard

Katie is a professional singer with a Bachelors of Music in Voice from New England Conservatory and a Masters of Music in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from Westminster Choir College. She has performed on stages in Philadelphia, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Italy, and Austria, and her professional experience includes operatic performance, musical theater performance, and jazz/pop performance. She works as a background vocalist in a local recording studio and spends time writing originals with local musician Joe Lesky, as well as being an active member of the National Songwriters Association International. She enjoys teaching all levels of voice students in a variety of styles, and is most noted for her ability to cater to the student’s interests and needs while still encouraging healthy vocal techniques and a high performance quality. Her background and professional experience have given her an expertise in the physiology of the voice and how to gain familiarity with it’s function in order to communicate well to audiences around the world. She is trained in many methods of acting, expression, and performance and can share that knowledge when teaching repertoire and preparing students for recitals and auditions. She can help singers reach their best potential as performers through weekly lessons and through the recitals and extra events the studio provides. The most important thing is to appreciate one’s unique vocal gifts and to enjoy them and learn to use them well.

Katie and her husband live in Princeton, NJ with their five year old daughter, Leona, and their two year old son, Thatcher. Her past also includes professional experience in the Museum setting as the Education Associate for Group Programming at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. This role required her to create engaging and interesting content for visiting K-College students, to help the students connect with history directly and gain empathy and understanding for the immigrant community in Lower Manhattan. Later Katie was promoted to Manager of Visitor Services, where she enhanced her customer service skills with all of the public visitors at the museum. Katie also currently works for Queenship of Mary Parish as the Music Coordinator, Principal Cantor, and Youth Minister for their high school youth group.
