Voice lessons are provided weekly for students ages 5-105. Katie has been trained in the Italian school of Bel Canto and has learned through experience and education how to apply these healthy singing techniques to a variety of singing styles (pop, musical theater, classical.) The primary goal of lessons in Katie’s studio is to gain familiarity with and control over the vocal instrument so that creative choices can be made freely by the student in performance environments. Once you get to know your vocal instrument your confidence in performance, and even in public speaking environments like meetings and lectures, will soar.
Recitals
Twice a year, Fall and Spring
Each year the studio participates in two full recitals. The students have an opportunity to perform in front of their peers, family members, and teacher to show the world their gifts and talents! Performances are held in venues with sound systems to give students an opportunity to become familiar with microphones, the stage environment, and singing in front of an audience. There is no additional fee to participate in recitals, all students are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Holiday Sing-Along
Every December
The studio gathers each December to celebrate the holiday season with a festive sing along! Students, siblings, and parents are invited to join us for warm apple cider, sweets and treats, crafts, and winter songs on a selected evening before the New Year. This event is open door, meaning students can come and go as they please. This year we may add some caroling to our agenda if there is interest!
Recording Studio Experience
Occasional Special Event
One new experience offered in the Barnard Voice Studio is time in a professional recording studio with a sound engineer. Students are assigned one or two hour blocks of time to record a prepared song at Thunder Pumpkin Studios in Lambertville, NJ. The students leave with a recorded track that they can enjoy at home, and with exceptional experience that can truly give them a taste of the real music industry.
